When’s the Best Time for Crappie Fishing?
In spring when crappie are spawning in the shallows, it's probably the most popular time to reel in crappie at the Lake of the Ozarks . And our fishing resort at the Lake of the Ozarks is the perfect place to catch crappie because we have well maintained crappie beds right below our docks that we keep as stocked as possible. During the spring spawn, crappies are found in relatively shallow water near the upper ends of coves. Later they move to deeper water, usually to depths of 15 feet or more. Spawning crappie can be caught with jigs, minnows or small crankbaits or spinners. Fish brushpiles and standing timber are where crappie concentrate. During spring, you might find crappie grouped off the bank around brushy structures and suspended at about the same depth as other spawning fish.
